Bruins News · A New Year!

It is a new year in interscholastic sports at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School! We are excited about the prospects of championship seasons, rigorous competition, and the continuation of the great sportsmanship exhibited by our student-athletes. As we work diligently to ensure that our student athletes have opportunities to showcase their talents in the arena of sports, we will also dedicate our programs to the development and support of the school’s (and the student’s) academic goals. Another aspect of our programs, however, is to provide a vibrant, safe, and affordable entertainment venue for the Orangeburg community.

We have many opportunities to share with the community. From jamborees and tournaments to playoffs and championships, 2015-2016 promises to be an exciting and entertaining new year. While many people relish the thrill of college and professional sports, there is just as much excitement in our high school venue. We invite everyone to visit us on the many occasions we will offer in the coming sports seasons.

We will begin the year with the annual Willie Jeffries Classic (a Football Jamboree) on August 14, 2015. This is a great opportunity to see teams from around the region showcase the talents of their student-athletes. Here at OW, we have some very talented young men stepping into the limelight as they pursue their dreams of team glory. Throughout the year, we will host four home varsity football games (with the first matchup against Edisto on August 21st); but, we will also host six (6) Junior Varsity games on Thursday nights. So, every week for eleven weeks there is an opportunity for you to support these young men.

But, football is not the only game in town. Fall sports also include Volleyball, Girls’ Tennis, Competitive Cheer, and Cross Country. The Volleyball team will have its first home appearance in the “Bruin Classic” Volleyball Tournament. This is an all-day event (beginning at 8:00 a.m.) on August 29, 2015. After the “Classic” the Volleyball team will host six additional home games, primarily on Thursday nights at 6:00 p.m. As a bonus, come see the volleyball matches and get two games for the price of one as both the JV and Varsity squads will be competing. Girls’ Tennis also has several home matches to enjoy. Competitive Cheer and Cross Country will be on the road for all of their events; but, we are sure they would welcome your support if you choose to travel to see them compete. Cross Country is adding a girls’ team this fall and I am confident they will produce some stunning results.

As Athletic Director and as an educator, every new school year is filled with hope and excitement about the possibilities that lay before us. We want to share that hope and excitement with the entire Orangeburg Community. So, even if you cannot attend our events, we have provided new ways of keeping you in the loop. The Athletic Department has a new website at where you can keep up with the schedule of events and read insightful stories about our student-athletes, our coaches, and our school. You can also follow our exploits on Facebook at “OWHS Bruin Athletics” and/or on Twitter @OWHSBruins. We are delighted to begin the new school year and we look forward to your support as we seek the “Opportunities Waiting” for our student-athletes, our athletic teams, and the entire Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School community.
